To Our Community,
Happy New Year! As we begin a new year together, I write with immense pride and a full heart to share an important leadership transition for the Edwin M. Lee Asian Pacific Democratic Club.
At the close of last year, I concluded my service as President, and am honored to continue supporting our work as Immediate Past President. Serving this organization and our broader community has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.
When I first stepped into the presidency of the former Asian Pacific Democratic Club in 2017, I followed many strong and fearless leaders, with big shoes to fill and little sense of what lay ahead. Later that year, following the passing of Mayor Edwin M. Lee, it became even more critical for our board, members, and community to carry forward his legacy through community activism and by uplifting the next generation of leaders.
I am deeply proud to have served as the first President of the renamed Edwin M. Lee Asian Pacific Democratic Club. I am profoundly grateful to our board for their trust and partnership throughout my tenure as we worked together to honor Mayor Lee’s commitment to bringing communities together, leading with compassion and integrity, and uplifting API voices across politics, arts, culture, business, and civic life.
As we look ahead, I am excited to announce that my friend and colleague, Thomas Li, will serve as the Club’s next President. Thomas brings deep experience, thoughtful leadership, and a strong commitment to our values and mission. His charisma and compassion for others are chief among his many qualities as a person and leader, and I have full confidence in his ability to guide the Club into its next chapter while continuing to build on the foundation we have laid together.
As Mayor Lee once said, “Live your lives boldly and open the door for others.” Our board reflects a new generation of API leadership from every corner of San Francisco, united by the passion, courage, and conviction to continue that legacy.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our Club, our mission, and our community. I am excited for what lies ahead under our new leadership and look forward to continuing this work together in the years to come.
