Dear Ed Lee Dems Family,
I’m honored to step into the role of President. This club has been my political home since 2011, and I’m grateful for your trust in me to lead us forward.
For those getting to know me better: I’m a lifelong Democrat and a native San Franciscan. By day, I’m a policy nerd working to make government work better for people. By night, I’m a maker building websites, designing campaigns, and creating the tools that help us organize and win.
My journey with this club started when we were still the Asian Pacific Democratic Club. I worked to elect Mayor Ed Lee, whose legacy of compassion and bringing people together continues to inspire everything we do. After his election, I joined Covered California at its creation, working to enroll thousands in affordable health care and turn the promise of Obamacare into reality for families across our state.
In recent years, you’ve seen me marching against anti-Asian hate when our community was under attack and for women’s rights when our freedoms were threatened. I’ve been proud to serve this club leading our communications and marketing efforts. This isn’t a new face in a new role. It’s a new role for someone who’s been in the trenches with you.
I want to thank Selina Sun for her outstanding leadership as President. Selina has guided our club with grace, strategic vision, and unwavering commitment to our community.
We have a big year ahead: the California Democratic Convention in February, elections in June and November, and countless ways to get engaged. Whether you’re a longtime member or just joining us, there’s a place for you in this work.
Mayor Lee used to say, “Live your lives boldly and keep the door open for others.” That’s exactly what we’ll do in 2026.
Let’s get to work.
In solidarity,
Thomas Li
