The killing of Alex Pretti was cruel, callous, and cold-blooded. It should outrage every American.
Alex Pretti is the sixth person to die during this immigration crackdown. Two American citizens have been killed by federal agents in Minneapolis in three weeks. Alex Pretti was a nurse who cared for our veterans. RenĂ©e Good was a mother and writer. Both were exercising their rights as Americans. Across the country, four others have died. Not a single officer has been charged. Video evidence directly contradicts the administration’s version of events.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said it best, “How many more residents, how many more Americans need to die or get badly hurt for this operation to end?” Masked, militarized federal agents operating with impunity in American cities is not creating safety. It’s doing exactly the opposite. This has to end.
San Francisco has long understood that public safety and community trust go hand in hand. We know what happens when federal immigration enforcement operates without coordination with local officials. It creates fear in our communities, tears families apart, and makes everyone less safe. That’s why San Francisco refuses to let our local police be turned into immigration agents.
We stand with those peacefully protesting in Minneapolis and calling for justice. We call for full, independent investigations into all six deaths. This is a moment that demands courage. Silence is complicity.
