The Ed Lee Asian Pacific Democratic Club is proud to partner with Asian Pacific Young Leaders (APYL) to promote their summer paid internship program! If you know a bright young leader who is interested in government, politics, and the API community, please encourage them to apply!
The Asian Pacific Young Leaders (APYL) internship program is designed to provide college students with the tools they need to become successful community leaders and political professionals in the Bay Area. The program gives students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, build their professional network, and gain political experience.
Students will be placed in non-profit or political organizations during the length of their internship, and will attend weekly professional development seminars. They will also be given the opportunity to volunteer at community events and attend major political functions. Prior interns have been placed with the offices of Mayor Ed Lee, Assemblymember Phil Ting, Supervisor Katy Tang, and the Community Alliance of Jobs and Housing. APYL graduates have gone on to work for elected officials like Congresswoman Barbara Lee or serve as government affairs representatives to companies like Airbnb.
All interns will receive a paid stipend during the internship program.
Requirements
- Undergraduate student (or recent college graduate) residing in the Bay Area during the summer of 2018.
- Deep interest and engagement with the Asian Pacific Islander community.
- Available to work minimum of 20 hours a week in your assigned placement.
- Available to attend mandatory professional development seminars every Tuesday evening in San Francisco.

Personal statements should be 300-500 words, and answer the following prompt: How have you engaged or taken leadership in your community and how do you plan to use that experience in your future academic and career goals? Please feel free to describe any community service, political work, or issue advocacy in your response.
