June 12 UPDATE: With the community’s support and your public comments, Jason and James won their case and resumed their plans to open Matcha N’ More. We are proud to support Jason and James, while shining a light on the inequities of Discretionary Reviews.

Today, a new green tea themed ice cream shop Matcha N’ More could be opening in the Mission district. But small business owners Jason Yu and James Mai had to put their dreams of starting a business on hold. Garden Creamery ice cream shop filed paperwork with SF’s Planning Department to block Matcha N’ More from opening. COVID has already delayed the business from opening and owners Jason and James are losing money on rent while they wait to open. What Garden Creamery did to stop a new small business from opening is wrong and unfair.

The Mission has thrived with many ice cream shops. Both Valencia Corridor Merchants Association and Mission Merchants Association agree that Matcha N’ More would be a good fit for the neighborhood. Please take 2 minutes to take action and support a small business owned by Asians! Support ice cream diversity and stop Garden Creamery from crushing small businesses!
