The Edwin M. Lee Asian Pacific Democratic Club proudly endorses Yes on Proposition 50 in the November 4, 2025 special election.
Why Prop 50 Matters
- Protects Fair Representation Proposition 50 allows California voters to adopt new congressional district maps for the 2026, 2028, and 2030 elections. This measure responds to Republican-led gerrymandering in other states that threatens fair representation. Without Prop 50, current maps would remain in place through 2030.
- Strong Democratic Support The California Democratic Party, Governor Gavin Newsom, and Democratic legislators are leading the campaign for Prop 50. The San Francisco Democratic Party has hosted public forums like “Reckoning with Redistricting: Breaking Down Prop 50” to educate voters.
- Defends California Communities By ensuring fair congressional districts, Prop 50 protects the political voice of diverse communities, including Asian American and immigrant populations whose representation could otherwise be diluted.
What a Yes Vote Means
- California voters, not partisan map drawers, will have the power to adopt emergency congressional maps starting in 2026.
- The measure preserves California’s independent redistricting process for the long term, with the Commission regaining authority after 2030.
- It provides California a tool to safeguard democracy at a time when fair representation is under threat across the country.
